Leg and Speed Training

Strength training in the legs is very important. Not only are legs the most powerful of weapons that you have but its also a good defense for keeping a distance from your opponent. It is most common to use your legs as a long distance weapon if the other fighter is a better in close fighter or is good at grappling.

Belts

Once you reach about the third sash or belt in any martial art, everything is the same thing over and over again. You just learn different forms. Which I don't think you'll be focusing on when your in a fight. What you need to do is practice you strikes blocks kicks stamina and work out. Find the techniques that work and leave the others. But don't limit your self to just one style, be flexible.

Training

Never limit one self. Learn to also fight with objects so that you will be prepared for anything.

Books

Knowledge is truly power. There is a lot one can learn from reading books. And although it's not really respectful to learn different styles when one is going to a school. It's always nice to know a little more then the average person, so I encourage you to please be respectful to your teacher and your school. To not be bound by one style is the smartest thing you'll ever do. I use Northern Mantis as my base system of fighting but I also study the Wing Chun style, Jeet Kune.
